Celebrating Your Impact: United Way Night at the Drive

We had a blast celebrating the impact of thousands of United Way investors, partners and volunteers at our sixth annual United Way Night at the Drive.

From our pre-game District 356 block party to our Alexis de Tocqueville Society and Palmetto Society events throughout the stadium, United Way supporters showed up in a big way to celebrate the work made possible by their collective generosity.

The party started outside of Fluor Field in District 356 with our “stuff the bus” donation drive, menstrual kit packing (350 kits packed!) through our partners at The Period Project, face painting and balloon art, Greenville County Library System’s Bookmobile, the South Carolina Children’s Theatre, a local fire truck and firehouse, Michelin-sponsored robotics teams, inflatables and more. Thank you to all of the partners and community organizations who came out to make this such a fun experience.

Our 2024 Board Chair Dr. Saria Saccocio and her daughter Ella got the game started with the first pitch, and we heard about the work of United Way programs from OnTrack Greenville Executive Director Dr. Edward Anderson as well as REEM Greenville Executive Director Dr. Kirsten Naomi Chapman.

One of the most exciting moments of this year’s event was the honoring of our 2024 Judge Merl F. Code Scholarship recipients. This scholarship, named in honor of United Way of Greenville County’s first African American board chair, is made possible through the support of our African American Leadership (AAL) group. This year’s recipients are: Jayla Byers, Miguel Kilgore, Kendred Walker, Cydney Smith, Tiky Elijah Martin, Timothy Jerrod Chiles Carter, Chale Yvette McCalpin and Courtney Christine Gaither. Congratulations to these incredible high school graduates and future community leaders.

Nights like these remind us why so many people are moving to this beautiful community. In fact, our friends at the Chamber of Commerce estimate that our region is on pace to add 220,000 new people by 2040.

As Greenville County grows, however, so does the level of need. With your support, we can be there to meet that rising need and make sure our community can continue to thrive. Click here to give today.

Together, we’re creating a future in Greenville County where all people have access to the resources they need to build the lives they deserve. This is How We Win.
