United Way opens application window for Judge Merl F. Code Scholarship

United Way’s African American Leadership has opened its application window its Judge Merl F. Code Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year.
The scholarship honors the legacy of Code, who was the first African American chair of United Way’s board of directors.
United Way’s AAL plans to $5,000 scholarships to eight applicants who meet the following criteria:
- Is an African American high school senior in the class of 2024
- Resides in Greenville County
- Has a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrates leadership potential and a commitment to community service
- Plans to pursue a college degree, professional certification or trade at an accredited institution
“We are proud to be able to honor the legacy of Judge Code with this important investment in education and our children,” said Meghan Barp, president and CEO of United Way of Greenville County. “We know the power education has to change lives and impact generations of families in our community. We hope these scholarships will help students take the next step to economic mobility for themselves and a stronger Greenville County for all.”
